baby quilt retiac
when you make a baby quilt and you back it with flannel should you use batting?
|
it is up to you- is the baby in a cold climate? is there a lot of seams on the top (they will show through- feel through a plain flannel back without batting) I've made many, many flannel backed quilts baby right on up to kings- I've only left the batting out of one- it's ok- but doesn't have the soft, cozy feel of a quilt - it's flat and very light weight--if that's what you are going for then by all means- do it that way.

You don't have to use batting, but I prefer a very light weight cotton for batting. You may want to consider preshrinking the flannel as they shrink a lot more than regular quilting fabric.

thank you both for your input

I do flannel backing on all my baby quilts and always use warm and natural.

I have some with a layer of neutral or white flannel instead of batting. Makes it a little warmer, softer and less transparent.
