Baby Quilt Size

I want to make a quilt for a baby turning one and another as a new born. What are good baby quilt sizes?

Do you know how the parents will use the quilt?

Will it be to wrap the baby when going out? Will it be a "drag around" quilt?

Will it go on a toddler bed?

Will it be a cuddle quilt for naps?

45 x 60 has been considered to be a lap size or crib size.

Smaller square ones work better for swaddling.

Will it be on a wall as a decoration?

I always let the quilt pattern decide how big it will be. My baby quilts are usually 36"-45" wide and 36"-60" long depending on what pattern I make.

I used to make my baby quilts like 30 x 36 ish... but then my great niece keeps using hers. She loves it (which is really cool) She's 5 now and asked me make her quilt bigger now that she's bigger... ha ha

so now I started to make the ma 38 - 40 x 50 or 60". As long as I can still use width of fabric for the backing I am happy

I make baby quilts all the time for donations... Mine are about 42" square.

Try for 45 x 60" some bigger some smaller. Mostly what I try to make the donation quilts I make. When I am done working on them they are whatever size they are.

The same here. 40x50 or for the older baby 42x60

My donation quilts are usually 36 x 54 which is a good size for a baby quilt. Lately, I have been making strip quilts for friends’ babies. I use several different fabric choices, ( incl. minky or chenille for texture). I also put Minky on the back. These quilts are usually a large lap size 46 x 65. I figure the baby will grow into it. Haha. ( Use it for many years).

That’s pretty much the way I make all my quilts. LOL

BTW, I have a picture of the chihuahua we had when I was a kid that looks exactly like your avatar, except for the color of our dog.

How long do you want the quilt to be usable by the kids? If more than 5, I would suggest 45" x 60". Since a lot of kids use their crib mattress in a toddler bed, another thought is to make the quilts large enough to cover a crib mattress, with some length and width to overlap the sides of the mattress.
