Also, I had a tip from someone to use two layers of flannel instead of batting because it cuts the wind better. Has anyone else done this? If so, how do you like this method as opposed to using batting?

Thanks for posting the chart. I keep a Word document that has quilt grids for experimenting with quilt designs. I added your chart to my file. I tend to just start making something and it just is whatever size it is. Making baby quilts seems to keep me busy lately. Right now, I'm wanting to try a quilted purse, but haven't hit the design board yet. I've never made one and not sure how to get it started.
