Baby quilts for the future?
Please don't think I'm morbid, but I am a realist. I'll be 70 in 2 months, have two sons=1 married but no idea if they will have have children and the other...well no serious relationship. But in their 30s and yes they all know I quilt.
Delima...I have the fabric, have the time, found baby quilts I'd love to make. So should I make 6 baby quilts for the future? I'd make them gender neutral. I don't feel comfortable asking married son anything about family plans. No idea how long I'll be able to sew with minor vision issues and arthriis (sp) setting in. Just looking for other opinions. |
I suggest you make them, if no one has any babies they can always be donated to the church, shelters for women and children, etc.

Go for it, why not? Nothing like being prepared and you won't be pressured when it happens.

Oh how funny you should ask this as I pulled out some fabric just the other to do up some quick baby quilts. My husband said "who is having a baby" I replied " No one" he walked back out of the room...lol I will enjoy making them and when I need a gift it will be waiting. Do what makes you happy.

I always have baby quilts in reserve. I think I've got 4 right now.
If you've got the time, fabric and patterns...why not? No one has to know that you have a plan for these quilts. Watson |
I think that's a great idea! You know they will keep and be a treasure when they are needed.
|
Get them sewn, quilted and stored for the future.
|
And I respond with, "Why not?" I have been considering making graduation/wedding quilts for my grandchildren because of the same reasons you have. Will I be here when they graduate or get married? I am not planning on leaving any time soon, but the reality is my days are numbered. So let's use our time well and produce some beauty and love for our future generations.

Baby quilts are possibly the most fun to make. As other said, shelters and other charities (like Project Linus) would always take baby quilts if your family doesn't end up needing them.
