Babylock Destiny Embroidery/Sewing Machine
 

I am new to the Quilt Board and wondered if anyone has purchased the Babylock Destiny machine. I have an older Babylock EMP6 model which I love but it has limitations and I have been looking to add a single needle embroidery machine to my equipment. I've heard a couple of people mention issues with the Destiny and wondered if anyone could weigh in on this. Thanks!

I bought one last year and just love it. Only drawback is the size of it. :) You sure don't want to use it as your portable machine!

I do not have one but did sew and embroider on one a few months back. Love it.

Have you checked out the Dream machine by brother, its fantastic. You can scan a design into it and the machine will digitize it, you can also watch DVD's on it. The best place to buy any machine is an event or show. I just saw the Dream machine at an Anita Goodesign this weekend. I have the Viking Diamond Deluxe and it is a great machine. No matter what you buy you should test them out and make sure the dealer is a good one and has good policies in place for classes, fixing it helping you with learning curves, etc. customer service is key

I've been comparing these myself... the Destiny has a slightly larger embroidery area and has all of the other features that the Dream has. I'd love to know if the Destiny has any quirks or drawbacks. And does it have embroidery design software other than the scanning?

Sorry I should have clarified. I am a HUGE Babylock fan. I believe the Brother Dream is the same machine as the Destiny (or pretty close). I was at a one day event at my local store a couple of weeks back and overheard a lady talking with her friend about the issues she had with the Destiny. She noted that she had to take it in several times to have work done on it and she only had it for a little over 6 months.

It's a very large expense so I always hesitate to jump and buy the new model until it's been out for a while and worked out the kinks.

I just wondered if this ladies issue was a "one off" sort of thing or if others had similar challenges with the machine.

I bought my Baby Lock Destiny last July (for my birthday). I have used it almost every day since I've had it. Yes it is a very large machine with all the bells and whistles. I have it in the shop only because there was thread caught inside and I couldn't get it out. It is not a machine they allow us to work on. Mainly because it is a computer that sews and how many of us take our computer apart? I consider myself intermediate level as far a technology. If you are able to piece together a quilt I am sure you would be able to work with this machine. Baby Lock has made it so easy with the on board videos and resource classes it is not hard to learn. It was not stated what the issues were with the machine. I have had a few but have worked them out. For instance, the thread kept breaking... The machine wasn't threaded correctly as in the thread was coming off the spool incorrectly. The other thing was I was using the incorrect needle size and brand. I now use Schmetz 90/14 for all my embroidery. I slowed the speed down too which helped more than anything. My theory, although our machines are made to sew faster than the speed of lightening our thread technology has not caught up to our machine technology. I use "SPECIAL" needles for embroidery. Since I have been doing these things I have not had any problems. The credit for all this information is from the guys who work on these and all other machines at Select Sewing in Indianapolis, IN.
Bottom line, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my machine. I am just getting to know it and the more I learn the more I love it. It makes all my sewing tasks easier and looks professional. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
My history: I have owned in this order, White, Singer, New Home and two Viking sewing machines in my 30 plus years of sewing. I also just purchased a Baby Lock serger about two years ago and I believe Baby Lock is at the top of the list on home sewing machines.
