Does anyone have one...I've been interested in buying one for some time now..Heard mixed reviews and have tried it out at a QS but last time I cked the best deal I could get was 1900.00. So before I put out that kind of money I wanted reviews...from ladies who have worked on them.

Does it do anything besides Sashiko? Kind of expensive if that's all it does.

No Shashiko is all it does. Like a straight stitch machine only does straight stitch!
Did you watch fons and porter yesterday? lol I seen it used on the stocking episode and I have to admit I like what it did, however I didn't like it to the tune of 1900 dollars. I do have a striaght stitch machine so I am not totally against getting a single purpose machine. Maybe if it was cheaper. |
The front is nice, the back is an unattractive chain stitch. It wouldn't look nice on the back of a quilt IMO. They don't show you the back of the project and they should!!
|
I don't get it. Why would any one need a machine dedicated to a straight stitch. I know what Sashiko is, but don't understand why someone couldn't do this technique on a traditional machine. What am I missing???

Janet, a sashiko stitch is not really a straight stitch. It's a handquilting "look" that you can only mimic with invisible thread on regular machines. With this machine you can make different spacing between the stitches to look just like handquilting. Google sashiko to see.... But, like I said the back of the project does not look like handquilting.

Don't know about the machine you are talking about but I have a BabyLock embroidery machine and it has run like a champ. I really don't do that much embroidery with it, but I've sewn some really heavy denim rag quilts with it and it handles the weight of the fabric without any difficulty.

Thanks, I get it now. I can do a stitch on my machine that mimics hand stitching (using 12 wt thread) , but the spacing between the stitches can't be varied. I googled Sashiko and saw this variable spacing between the stitches.

I love real/actual/authentic sashiko. I personally don't see how this machine has anything to do with the art of sashiko. Kinda like "quilted" toilet paper has nothing to with the art of quilting.
