Back basted applique question
I've been intrigued lately with learning to do back basted applique. My usual go-to method has been with freezer paper, but this looks like something I might prefer. Using this method, how do you applique a motif that has layers, for example a flower with a center on top of it like in a Whig Rose pattern? Do you use back basting for the first layer and then switch to a different method of applique for the successive layers of the motif?

You would do one layer at a time, then cut away the fabric that's underneath the applique, just as you normally would with regular applique.

Jeanna Kimball is the lady I remember doing back basting applique. She has a Facebook page with some videos. Look for Jeanna Kimball Foxglove Cottage.
