Backing fabric question

I am considering using a smallish check for the backing on a quilt. Possibly a regular gingham or a gingham on point (little diamonds). How difficult is it to keep the pattern squared up. My skills are intermediate, but I have never attempted this before. I have always used an all over print. What have your experiences been?

Being the back of the quilt it is doubtful anyone will notice if the little checks are totally straight or not. As long as you don't stretch the fabric, making it wonky.

Add your left over fabric from the front for the backing. That way you won't have to worry about squaring anything.

I haven't done much creative backing. I find after I piece the top I just want to get it done and move on to another.

I would be careful with using actual gingham. It is a very fine fabric and might end up being stretchy and thus wonky.

I have used gingham on a couple of quilts ...love it! I used it just straight but bound the quilts with the gingham on the bias. Really pretty! Attached for you to see...the pattern is "Jazz Cats".

Great quilt! Love those twisted tails!

Love Love Love your quilt! Thanks for posting the picture. I think I will give it a try. I really like the straight checks and then the bias binding.

I think it will look great! I used a stripe on one of my backs and it is one of my favorites. Just do the best you can in keeping it straight and don't fret if it is a little off. The smaller the gingham print the less it will show if it is a little off.

Noone cares if it isn't absolutely straight.

At least no one except (maybe) you.

And no one will be paying attention, if they are in your bedroom or house as I'm sure they will be focusing on the front.
