Backing fabric for quilt
 

What am I doing wrong? I measured from center etc. but when I went to put the layers together for some reason the back was a little short even though I allowed 2" all around. Used spray glue to put layers together. So do you think the glue shrunk up the backing a bit? I don't know what to do now. So upset.
Anyone have any suggestion I would really appreciate it. Its a queen size quilt so not the easiest to handle.

By spray glue, do you mean basting spray? Like 505? I don't think basting spray would shrink a queen-size backing by more than 4". My best guess is that your measurements were a bit off. Adding 2" all around means everything needs to measure 4 inches bigger in width and length.

If it's just one side that's short, I would *carefully* sew an extra strip of backing fabric on. If it's a print fabric, likely no one but you will ever notice. The biggest problem is that the basting sprayed side of the fabric will be tacky. You will be sewing fabric right sides together. I would sew with the tacky side up and lay a sheet of typing paper over the tackiness so it will slide under the machine foot. You can sew right through the paper, then remove the paper from both sides of the sewn seam.

I just finished a quilt that I used Elmer's glue on and it shrunk. But it was an easy problem to fix.

This probably isn't the answer, but is it possible you layered the quilt with the backing on sideways? I've done that on the longarm before.

Yes, maybe the backing has been turned 90 degrees. I agree, 505 spray should not have shrunk the fabric by so much if at all.

Add an extra border on the back all the way around, maybe even using some of the fabric from the front or a color that is predominant from the front, and everyone will think it's a beautiful, creative design choice.

I've loaded one wrong too lol gets confusing when they aren't layered. Hope you can fix it, gonna be a sticky mess but with some goo gone you'll be fine
