Fleece makes a great backing. I just baste as usual with pins and don't worry about it. Cotton tends to stick to fleece and I've never had it stretch or pucker while quilting.

This is also my experience. I have used fleece to back from baby quilts to a queen sized one with no problems. I safety pin baste and make sure not to stretch the fleece. I've made over 250 quilts using this technique.
