Backing question

I'm about to choose the fabric for the backing of my "stacks" quilt. The quilt measures approx. 70" long by 69" wide. I'll be buying 108" backing but I'm lost as to how much of it I should purchase. If someone can figure this out for me and PM me since I'll be shopping this afternoon, I would so appreciate it.

I guess I slept through my math classes as a youngster or else this old brain is losing cells rapidly but I can't figure it out for the life of me.

If you don't want to piece the back, I would buy the length of your shortest side---69" plus 6-8" extra for backing overhang which is 75"-77". This is a little over 2 yards----so 2 1/4 yards will do it. You will have extra width left over for other projects.

It really doesn't matter what size to get since your quilt is almost square. Just add on what you need to pin baste it and order that amount 2.125 yards??

I am in the same math-challenged boat as you. I discovered www.mywebquilter.com. It is an easy to use, wonderful online quilt calculator and has other features available. Give it a try. You will be amazed at your new math ability.

We figured this out quickly! Let's give it to a student of today and see how they do it with "new" math!
