Backing ---Split decision

This is a pieced backing for grandson's dinosaur quilt. All but the dark green fabric was used on the front quilt. I wanted to use up fabrics to limit left overs.

Should I split the large gray and purple print section and bring the bottom section (dark green and purple fabrics) to the center so it creates a 9 patch design?

Are you quilting it yourself or sending it to a Longarmer? If sending it out to be quilted, I wouldn’t split the fabric. It is hard to center backing and the fewer the seams the better when on a Longarm. Personally, I wouldn’t bother cutting and adding another seam.

Yes, it will be sent out the LA next week. Thank you for your help!

And I think you should split it. It would be a perfect nine patch, but you already know that since you were the one to question that fact. So what if the back isn't centered totally? The seams could slip as it is pieced right now and be slightly crooked. I love the idea of a dual sided quilt.

To be honest, I like it better as-is. I wouldn't split it as it looks great the way it is.

I'm going to even out the vote and say, yes, I would split it. But it would work fine either way!

I would make the 9 patch. Looks off balance now
I know its "only the back" but I think you'll be happier.

I think I would leave it as is since it is going out to a LA. This way it won't be so much trouble trying to center the backing.

I do like it the way it is. It seems perfect. I don't think it will matter to your grandsonhttps://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png. He is just going to love it because it came from you. You may want to call your LA'er and ask her what her preference is.
