What would you do if you went to a dealer and they had one person working there that really didnt seem to know much about the machine. She kept saying I dont know I dont know. She wouldnt show/couldnt me how to use it.
I was so excited to visit this particular dealer but left really annoyed. :thumbdown: |

i agree. I am so tired of sewing machine shopping. This is the second dealer in my area that I left his/her shop feeling disgusted. I may have to roll out the cash and buy a high end bernina, At least they know how to use the machines.

Amen. It's bad enough getting rotten service after a good sale. If it were me I would say "no sale". |

or maybe she was just filling in for someone and is not usually doing that side of the business.. i know at my dealer, they send all thier workers to schools on the machines they carry...they have 3 full timers and they know thier stuff... |

I am constantly amazed at people who start a business and apparently know nothing about keeping in business. There have been several businesses that have failed in my town due to word of mouth about customer service. All it takes is a few unhappy customers to ruin a small business in a small town.

I think I would have asked if she were new? Did she usually work there? Was there a back up person? I most definitely would have let her know that there was a problem with her not knowing the machine. If it was a case of a family emergency, I would not penalize the store, but if this was a regular occurance, I would let the dealer/parent company know!

Is this person normally there? Could she have just been filling in at rhe shop or very new?? I guess I woukd go back one more time and see if it's any different. If they are a dealer all their staff should be trained on the machines. If it's bad again, I wouldn't purchase from them. Doesn't give warm fuzzies for future support from them.

I got there and saw it, Had no idea how to use it. She came by showed me where the machine was and walked away to chat with someone else who works there. Then they sat down to eat their lunch. Finished their lunch and never came back! I tried to ask her some questions but she kept saying I dont know, I am not sure. blah blah blah. the technician who was there came out to talk to me, I guess he saw i was pissed. By that time I lost interest in the machine. |
If she has been there that long and still doesn't know the machines well enough to demo them, that says that the owner of the dealership really isn't interested in supporting the sewing community in your town.
Good customer service is key, so I would check out other dealers. Is there another Babylock dealer anywhere close to you? I know how it is when you have your heart set on a particular machine. When I bought my first Husqvarna years ago in Denver, both of the dealers were terrible, and in fact lost their dealerships. I had my heart set on that brand. What it meant for me is that I had to learn the machine on my own, which was okay, but classes would have been nice. Maybe give the other brands a try, you might like one of them equally as well. Keep us posted okay? |
i am beyond frustrated, at this point I may just go to ebay and buy a used machine.

Are there other dealers in your area you could go with. I thought some about buying a machine from Ebay, but am glad I went with the dealer in town. She gave me lessons and is always ready to answer any of my questions. Keep looking.

I know what you mean. The dealer I bought my first Bernina from doesn't sell Bernina's anymore. I want to buy a Bernina 440QE so I went to another Bernina dealer who also sold multiple brands. I have never used a computer machine, I currently have a Bernina 1008, so I asked for a demo on what the machine did. My sales person was very nice but kept having to leave me to ask someone else questions on how the machine worked. She owned a Phaff and kept trying to sell me a Phaff machine. I'm sure the Phaff is a wonderful machine but that isn't what I wanted. I am a true Bernina lover. I don't have another Bernina dealer in my direct area and really didn't want to travel 30 or 40 miles for a purchase. Like you I left frustrated and I am not sure what I want to do now.

i went to a very nice Brother/janome dealer. I looked at the Espire twin the QC 1000 and i was super impressed, i think it is prettier than the Espire. And a bit less money.

In the last 10 years I have purchased two machines and the salespeople promised to moon until after the sale. Then try to get the help promised! I know there must be good dealers out there somewhere.

I think I will buy my next machine from Amazon. They have some great prices and free shipping on most if over $249. I just ask someone who has the machine if they like it or not and if they would buy it again. If it comes with a manual, that is all I need -- I cannot remember all those points they tell me about because they are buy-me points. If someone is too gunho about selling me a machine, I wonder if it is really that great.

=============================================== For the missing manuals, go online and hunt for it there. There are a few sites that actually charge you for them, even for downloading!! But for keeping the customer happy, some of the companies are smart enough to have the manuals free to download. That is what I did with my new (old) Brother that I had bought a couple of years or so ago, and with company coming and the old machine working nicely, I stuck it in a closet. Then when I got it out recently, discovered that I or a helpful grandkid had lost/misplaced the manual. I downloaded it and it works nicely, and was surprised to find that I needed different bobbins for it than the hundred or so old plastic ones I have on hand. The manual says that using the wrong bobbin might harm the machine, but to me they look almost the same, but still........... |
I downloaded one for my featherweight. I like free. But some from Singer are $15 but I don't find paying that, it is always good to have a manual to fall back on. There is a guy on eBay that sells bobbins for various machines. I bought 30 for my featherweight for 11.99.

I'd definiately talk to the owner/manager and tell him what you've told us. It needs to be brought to his attention and he needs to know there's a problem. Loosing a sale because of bad customer service should be a clue as to what's goes on in the sales dept.

I feel so sorry for you having this problem. I agree, don't buy from that dealer. However, I would take a moment to talk with the owner and let that person know what happened and your response. Sometimes people take what t hey hear from employees as 'gospel' when they should really be more proactive.

Finding a sewing machine dealer who is very knowledgeable about every model he/she sells is a dying profession. I have given up and buy my machines on-line and take all of them to one place to be serviced, which is two hours from my home. The last placed I used charged me a fortune and still didn't fix my machine. Told me it was "another" problem my machine was having - this was after he insisted I needed a new $125 foot control. If I don't receive good service I just don't go there anymore - and that holds true for anything I purchase. Fact is, finding someone to wait on you in most retail stores is a real chore.
I do think I'd drop a note to the owner of that store and relay your experience. He may be barely holding on and not know why. |

I moved and the dealer of the brand of sewing machine that I had bought from my previous area refused to include me in her machine brand group that meets at her store

well i went to two dealers today, I am in love with Elna quilters dream 2, Brother NX450Q and the Brother QC 1000.
The Qc i would have to buy online, Found it for 1099, the nx450 is 650 at my dealer and the elna is alot more about 1200 but that would be cheaper to buy online also. my hubby said i should buy then online, Save money on Taxes and such. |
Please try to find a Brother dealer. The one that I went to sends their employees to a school and tests them so that they know their machines inside and out, all makes and models and their salespeople also should know the ins and outs, plus offer lessons on how to use the machine. I've been very pleased with my Brother.

If you have to drive 50 miles, it might be worth going to someone who gives good service and they may also be able to provide payment terms, etc. Don't go back to that one. I don't know about ebay nor trust someone selling a used machine, or new one. What happens if you have problems with it?
