I've recently purchased 2 pkgs of bali pops from 2 different LQS (hey, I support 'em all!). I excitedly opened one and started sewing them together to make a pattern called strip search. When I measured the width of six strips they were a tad more than 1/4" too narrow. Not a big problem, I'll just cut the squares to the same width. S0, check your Bali pops...

I just started a project using 3 Bali Pops and hand washed before cutting to remove the excess dye. The strip sizes and lengths are all different. Guess the birds will get some expensive nesting in the spring!

Wow, that's horrible. What were they thinking.

Please don't waste them on the birds--use them to make string blocks. I sew strips on to 8" squares of old sheets and then put the blocks together.

I have bought jelly rolls and never had a problem, they were moda. So sorry about your widths being off..did you write the company, take a picture and send it with them..

There is only about 1/8" or less being tossed out.

I have 2 bali pops, haven't checked them out yet. Hope they are okay since a few threads can make a big differance. Besides, what they cost, you would think the manufacture would have better control.

I read on a recent post that the Bali Pops are hand cut (not die cut), which would explain the variance. Someone suggested putting a piece of tape on the left side of the needle at the 2-1/4" mark and line the strip up to that. The seam allowance would be a little smaller, but finished size correct. Variance in the width is normal among all fabrics I've used, even from the same manufacturer. I rarely put 2 together that are the same width from selvege to selvege.

That's a great idea. One I will surely use and pass on. Thanks!
