Barb_MO Bargello Tutorial *-* Arranging cut strip sets for sewing

Now that you have cut your strip sets into required widths and have then stacked, you have sewn 2,156 pieces for your quilt.

This shows all your strip sets cut to required size of 3 1/2", 3", 2 1/2", 2", 1 1/2" 1", & 1" and lined up in a order.

Start on the left, picking up one 3 1/2" strip from your #1 stack. Hold on to this strip, with the other hand pick up a 3" strip and place it behind the 3 1/2" one. Working from left to right continue picking up one strip from each stack until your have gone through all seven stacks, ending with the fab. #6 strip. Continue to hold on to the strips in you hand, pick up a #7 strip and work your way back through the stack to #1 stack. Pick up a strip of #11 and work back and forth through the stacks, picking up the strips and adding the to back of the ones in your hand. When you have picked up enough for one section, you will have five ( 5) 3 1/2" strips in your stack. Each section start and ends with a 3 1/2" strip.

Pin this stack or clip some way to keep these altogether. You now have one section of your quilt in your hand.

If you have fingers like mine, that sometimes can't hold on to things you may want to pin once in a while as you are adding to the stack. On this one I pinned all the 1" and 1 1 /2" pieces to the stack after I placed them in my hand....easy to loose these little buggers.

Repeat this process until you have four (4) stacks. You should not have any strips left over. If you don't have enough strips or have any left over, something is wrong. You will have to go through your stacks and count to see where the problem is.

If you have made neat stacks you will be able to fold the stack end to end and put them aside until you need them. Much less chance of getting any strips out of place or onedropped out and having to figure out where it should go. Sometimes I will place a rubber band around the folded stacks to keep it all together.
