I started my first bargello quilt. I rushed a bit too much. It called for 1 inch strips (20 of them) sewn in strips. Finished that. Then, I had to cut a 3/4 inch strip. When I did that, the whole thing fell apart. I have a feeling that I should have made my stitch length smaller. Oh well.

Better luck next time.

What do you mean by "the whole thing fell apart"? Do you mean strips that had previously been sewn together became unsewn and therefore you think you should have used a smaller stitch?
I'm not getting something. I've done more than a few Bargello, most with at least a few 1/4" strips. One recommendaation ... are you sewing each successive strip in the opposite direction? What I do is leave the thread tail on my start end so I know which end I started, then the next strip I sew in the opposite direction. All the ends are going to be cut off anyway so leaving the start tail on is not a big deal (as long as you keep it out of the way while your sewing). Also, are you using starch? helps a lot. |

Time to add wash-out glue!

Maybe your thread tension was off. I would check that on scraps before I sew anything else.
Excuse me, please. I just realized that you were saying the stitching fell out in the 3/4" strip of the bargello you cut. In that case, the stitches may be too big! |
How sad. I hope you have a better experience next time... You sound like me...I learn something with every quilt I make. Some things I learn are bigger than others.

I am so sorry I just did my first Bargello and it came out nicely I just used a normal stitch length

Sounds like my weekend. Today I finally was able to make something that actually resembles blocks without wanting to chop them into the cutest pieces of crumbs--LOL

I would definitely check the tension. Don't give up. You can do it!
