Bargello Quilt Designs for Intermediate Quilter
 

I am looking for a book with simple, illustrative designs & instructions for Bargello quilts. Hopefully with lots of pictures & GOOD instructions. I am an experienced sewer but a quilter with about 2 years experience. Anyone have any suggestions? Any & all help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I always fall back on my Bing (not Google) search engine. I prefer Bing because they use lots of pictures. Do a search for "books about bargello quilting". You may even find some patterns you can download.

I took a class cause the books were confusing to me, now I feel I can tackle any bargello.

Bargellos aren't really very hard it is all straight sewing with strips. Some call for the strip set to be sewn into a tube ( bring the last strip to meet the first ) and that can be a bit confusing at first. Then you unsew cut widths of strip set at certain seams to create a new strip set. I suggest a small project using the method .. then once you "get it" any project will not be hard .. just some are more time consuming than others.

Twist and Turn Bargellos by Eileen Wright.....great book, easy to understand, beautiful patterns....first tip: start with a small project to get the idea of what you need to do before you spend lots of $$ on fabrics....you may decide you don't like making them. I did a table runner first, then decided that I knew enough to do a king sized quilt. #2 - the individual pieces can get pretty small, so using a solid or small print will work better than a large print....you will get a better graduation of colors with small prints. #3 - have fun and ask us all the questions you need answers for!

I second the Twist and Turn Bargello book. I'm making Surf Song from that book right now. It's my 6th bargello and my fav all-time pattern.

Marilyn Doheny has a book on Bargello quilts which I used early on in my quilting career (avocation). It was very very easy.

Consider taking the "Bargello Seasons" class on www.quiltuniversity.com . In that class you'll get instructions for 4 different bargello each of them different and increasing in difficulty, and online help from the teacher for the duration of the course (and a bit after). It was a great way to learn bargello - her instructions are clear and concise, you can post pictures of your color choices and the teacher will look at them and advise.

I took both the "Bargello Seasons" and "Bargello Blues". In Bargello Blues we made a far more complicated bargello for the 1st half of the class, then in the second half we designed our own with teachers assistance. My avatar is a variation of the pattern offered in the 1st half of Bargello Blues.

I tried the bargello sewing the strips into a tube. They got twisted and wonky (I didn't really know what I was doing) and had to start over. I would just sew all into long strips and not make the tube. Turned out beautifully. Have made five so far and all are straight. The twisted bargello was my first quilt,too. I love 'em
