I need advise. I would like to make a Bargello quilt, (not scrappy) and have read several tutorials. The two that make the most sense to me are The Incredible Scrappy Bargello Quilt from the quiltville site and Big Horns from Needlepointers.com. However, I cannot visualize how the design will look when it is cut and sewn together. I want it to be the same on both sides and not scrappy. I am using 32 different pieces of green fabric. Should I just go ahead and stitch the units together, cut and hope for the best or is it a lot more complicated than that. Hoping for quick lesson on Bargello layout. Thanks in advance. Janet in central NY.

I have made several Bargello quilts and love them. However I do have the book. I made one using all reds and it turned out great. Sorry I do not have any advice on how you would do it without using the book. I live just South of Binghamton NY. ARe you anywhere near there? Possible we could get together.

Look in the tutorial section here on the board. One of our members did a nice tutorial on it.
Also, try QuiltersTV. Billie Lauder has a nice video on there. |
Thanks for the quick reply. I would love to get together, but I live between Utica and Cooperstown which would be quite a drive. By the way, which book would you recommend

The book I have (and have had for many years) is "Bargello Hearts" by Nancy Podolsky published by Doheny Publications PH # 425 774-3761 Not sure if any quilt shops carry it any more as it was published in 1996 and there have been others since then. I have been to the quilt shop outside of Cooperstown several times, it is in FLycreek NY but I forget the name of it. Have you ever been there.

Heartworks is the name of the quilting shop in Fly Creek. Yes, I have been there. Interesting place. Another good one is in Oneonta called Piecework. And the Tiger Lily in Utica. All fun places. My sister-in-law used to own a nice quilt shop in New Hartford, which is near Utica, called Quilter's Paradise. Sadly they had to close up shop and move to VA.
