Barn Quilts

Is anyone here a member of the Barn Quilt Trail Movement? If so, was a picture of your barn quilt or your story included in the book Barn Quilts by Suzi Parron with Donna Sue Groves? I have just finished reading this book and am fascinated.

I am not and I have not read the book, but sounds very interesting. I love barn quilts. Our neighbor had them all over her house and it looked so neat.

No, never heard of this before.

That really sounds fantastic, Sew. Wish I'd seen it.

I first noticed pictures of quilt blocks painted on barns and thought it was a great idea. I thought they were just small squares before I realised that barns in America are HUGE. We have nothing like them here in Australia. The blocks are also huge, about six feet square. The book tells the story of how the Quilt Barn Trails movement was born and how they have spread to many counties in many states, mostly in the east. I found the book at our little local book shop and just had to have it. There are so many great stories and lovely pictures of the barns and it just crossed my mind that with the huge membership here on the Board, there just may be someone who has one or knows someone who has.

I heard about that on a quilting podcast that featured an interview with one of the authors (Parron, I believe). The podcast may have been Pat Sloan's because I listen to her occasionally. The idea sounded wonderful, a worthy detour on a road trip!

In my area SW of Albany NY. Barn quilts are the rage. They are everywhere and some buildings have 2 or 3. They are on stores and houses too.
