I am looking for some machine quilting basic information. I just made a small baby quilt and I would like to "stipple" quilt it. Not sure how to get project started. Any help would be appreciated.

I am going to assume that you have your quilt top sandwiched and pin basted.

To stipple, you need to drop your feed dogs, use a darning foot, and move your quilt sandwich in a free motion pattern of your choosing. I would recommend doodling your design on paper first (your brain will get used to the pattern because of the movement of your hand). Then try stippling on a practice quilt sandwich before starting on your quilt.

Yes, the videos are a great help! Seeing is believing!LOL Utube has many different ones too. I just taught a friend that hand quilts how to stipple on the machine and she picked it right up. I used some scrap fabrics sandwiched w/batting and had her drop the feed dogs w/open toe on the machine..then think like a puzzle. Actually for a large quilt, you could use those big puzzle piece(s) as a guide till you get the hand of it. You just meander around and work your way back. You will love this for it is so much fun! *Who did learn a tid-bit to use a marker, hold it upright and then meander on a magazine that you are going to recycle anyways. Flip the page and keep going to get the feel of it. I learned that

Does your machine have a "Slow Sew" button? I have a Pfaff with that feature and was told that is a good way for beginners to become comfortable with free motion quilting. It helps me gain control over stitch length.

Thanks for the tip. I just got a new Janome sewing machine for my birthday. Still trying to check out all the features. I have an hour free class on how to use it, but they told me to use it for awhile so I could get help with my questions. Free motion quilting is at the top of my list!
