Basket quilt question

My friend is making a quilt for a graduating senior grandson. She has a set of 11 basket squares that this child's grandmother started, and she is no longer living. My friend wants to incorporate these baskets into a quilt whose theme would be basketball. I can't load the pictures onto my thread. None of the baskets have flowers, they are all a neutral tan colors. Thanks for any suggestions

Hmmm - maybe make a two sided quilt?

Or two quilts?

How attached was this boy to the deceased grandmother? Would he have any appreciation - at this time of his life - for those basket blocks - regardless of who made them?

I agree with bearisgray... I can't imagine a boy wanting basket blocks and basketballs mixed in the same quilt.

You're probably right, Bear, But they could be used in the backing. That may make everyone happy.

Some backings are nicer/more attractive than the front/top.

I"m doing that now. backings being interesting. did one with a panel of a peacock on the back and loved it much better than the front!

I have been making all my quilts double sided. Uses up some of my stash and orphan blocks. I would save the basket blocks for someone who was close to the grandmother, and stick to basketball theme fabric for the graduate.
