Does anyone have any experience with using a spray adhesive for basting your quilt. If so, have you found one product to be better than another? Also, has anyone tried using Aqua Net as a spray adhesive. I read about this in a quilting blog and thought I would run the subject by the forum. Thanks for any insights you have.

I spray baste all my quilts. Even Queen size. I have tried many different kinds but my favorite is the 505 spray. Some have tried Aqua Net, but personally I won't. It is so flammable and it's not meant for this type of application.

Just make sure the basting spray can states that it is a temporary basting spray. :D

I've used basting spray for up to lap size quilts and it works great for me. I've never tried it on a bed size quilt.

I use spray basting for small projects--table runners or toppers and some wall hangings. I still use a few safety pins. I've never used it on a large quilt since I've never machine quilted a large one (yet). I'm sure there are people on here who can give you more info regarding large projects. Good luck.

I always spray baste. So much easier.

I just recently started using basting spray. I got a can of Sullivans at Hancock Fabric when it was on sale for 50% off. It worked great but has a horrible odor. I washed the quilt and let them air out for a couple days and the odor was still faint.

I am going to try the 505 spray on my next quilt. It got great reviews from lots of members here.

505 and Sulky are the ones without odor. Sulky is supposed to be environmentally friendly too.

Some people have trouble with spray basting when they use polyester batting. I use all cotton and have never had a problem, so am not sure about the poly. Some say it just takes more spray with poly batting.

I spray baste and THEN saftey pin. I think the spray helps me BASTE better, not quilt better. But once it's pinned well, the fabric moving has never been a problem.

I am a spray baster also. I like using Madeira. I love it!!!
I have used others ans the 505 is good. but don't like the smell. I have asthma and some of the sprays will set it off.
the Madeira has not done that, I don't spray real heavy either.

I use June Taylor on all my quilts & it works for me. It has a smell when you first put it on but doesn't leave a scent.

I prefer 505 spary and yes I have used it on bed size quilts when I quilt them on my sewing machine. I like it because it doesn't gum up the needle like some sprays do.
