I made a king mariner's compass quilt with batiks and it came out so beautiful! Your quilt is too!
|
Yeah, I'm a batik addict as well, I fully acknowledge it! :D
|
Oh yes, I love, love, love Batiks, too. I just finished a queen-sized top made of mostly batiks in the Montana Cartwheel pattern. I call it Wild Thing. I'll try to get a post up of it, but I just had to say how much I admire the beautiful batik quilts each of you has posted.
More later! |
I have seen batiks in the catalog -when you buy the fabric in difference colors are the designs in the dye the same? And what are bali fabrics. I must be missing something not using these fabrics. What would be a good pattern for my firsr batik>

Hi. My name is Quilting Nonnie and I'm a Batik Addict. (Hi Quilting Nonnie) LOL
Here's one I made for my son who likes batiks and blue. I loved it so much I made one for myself. The pattern is Gumballs and you can buy it at Stitchin' Heaven. I taught a class on this quilt. And now, as I think of it, I have one pattern that was left over. If you would like the pattern, just PM me. First one gets the pattern free, postage included. Offer ends January 29 @ 7 p.m. EST. (That's just so people don't keep PM-ing me! I'm sure it will be gone in a few minutes!) Paul Plays the Blues |

No, it was a pattern by Deb Luttrell of Stitch' Heaven, a quilt shop in Quitman, TX. Isn't it great?

Cute.

I had to start up my own company selling Batiks just so I could afford to keep up my Batik Habit. Wacky Jacky |

The fabrics came from leftovers and "failed auditions" for the "Stained Glass Braid" quilt (#3 below).
(2) "Category 1 Miami - A Small Storm at Sea" (24x24) - I made this for the "Quilting Natural Florida II" Exhibit, which was a joint effort of my quilt guild and the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL) Museum of Naturasl History. (3) "Stained Glass Braid" (70x93) - I made this in a workshop taught by Jane Hardy Miller, author of French Braid Quilts. No, I didn't follow the rules but made a quilt I really, really liked. I do an "honest" French Braid quilt with proper gradation another time. |
I started going there for fabric to make some western shirts and became an addict. Took a quilting class call SW techniques that taught. 14 techniues in a 6 block wall hanging. Had never quilted before. At the end of the class I joined 4 of thrie BOMs. HAVE STARTED ALL BUT HAVE FINISHED NONE, found 1 class didn't make me good. I started working on one block at a time, doing 2 the same and 2 mirrored adding sashing and borders and had a SW baby quilt. I wish I had been taking pictures. I soon found when I went to craft shows I was the only one doing SW baby quilts. I quess when I have done all the blocks from the 4 Boms into baby quilts I will be brave enough to do the quits as they were meant to be. I find my coyote and my buffals are the first to go followd by the fetish bear. That's the bear with the heart arrow through the body of the bear. They keep telling me a the shop I need to stop buying as a sewer and start buying as a quilt.

That's one cute quilt...great job :-D :-D :-D

I admit it...I am a batik addict! Love your quilt

Are the batiks in Connecting Threads and Keepsake Quilting catalogs good batiks? it sounds like you have to be careful about buying them. JoAnn's is really my only local store for quilting fabric and has some batiks.

I showed my fabrics to a non quilter, and she got a very funny look on her face. Will this end up being too wild? Do I need to stick with just a few colors? Art comes from the heart. Don't fear other people's judgement. A non-quilter will not understand so don't put too much effort into trying to please them. Just do your quilt and post it in here were people understand and can truley appreeciate it. Wacky Jacky |

The other possibility is that you may have purchased Batiks made in India rather than Bali. Bali batiks are definitely the best way to go. Much more superior. Wacky Jacky |
Beautiful...

The batiks from Connecting Threads & Keepsake are very good quality. I've also used the ones from Joann's but our Joann's here doesn't have much of a selection. |
I am always drawn to batiks. They are so interesting in their patterns. I made a star type lap quilt with quite a few batiks. I have a picture of it at home I will try to post.
|
I love Batiks sooo much that I started my own company that only sells batiks.
Plus it gives me an excuse to go to Bali to replenish stock. Jacky |
