Skittl1321, I love the way you used the batiks as art work. Creative and beautiful!

something modern in design. I use them all the time and also mix them with other fabrics.

There is a wonderful pattern "The Big Block" and most of the fabrics are larger pieces so you do not loose the look of the design...I think it is by Black Cat Creations..I love batiks..good luck!

I am laughing because I buy this stash of fabric to have then I don't want to use it because it is so pretty or I might need it later. Good luck finding the perfect pattern for your batiks. A long time ago I wanted to use a bunch of my favorite batik fat quarters so I did a Yellow Brick Road. It is pretty and goes fast. not a great outstanding pattern but fun to do with a bunch of favorite pieces of fabric.

I too love looking at batiks but am scared to jump in. I need to take the plunge and get over this unreasonable fear.

What's to fear? They are beautiful and made to show off. Pick your favorite quilt pattern and have at it.

I highlighted a section of your post. To me, not using a beautiful fabric is more of a waste, then using it and realized it didn't work out as you intended. Fabric is made to make something; unless it is displayed as art, it is not the end product. Batiks can be used in ANY pattern, and can be mixed with non-batik fabric. Just pick the quilt you want to make.

For those I really didn't want to cut them up, so I picked my 3 favorites, stretched them over art canvas and hung them like the paintings they are.

Grannie's going to go canvas shopping! WTG!

Oh My!! I have a list of patterns to review and I love the idea of covering canvas with my favorites as artwork. If I can choose my favorites !!?? Thanks for encouragement, I love QB!!

Batiks are beautiful to look at but would look better in a quilt....

I use batiks a lot and love the look for every pattern, almost. As to bleeding, Shout has a product out that I just used the other day for catching color when you wash quilts. My quilt was red, white and black with the black being batik. I used 3 pieces of color catcher and the quilt did not bleed. Yeah. The color keepers were really black and gray and started out white. Just a thought. I try to buy alot these days, my stash is good but I really have a soft spot for batiks. They are just so beautiful and really make a statement.

Here is one I made after collecting batik fat quarters for quite a while - a stained glass looking pattern. Gave it to my nephew and his wife (in the picture) who live a couple of hours away. It was perfect motorcycle riding weather, so we loaded up the quilt and delivered it!
(Hope this picture loads correctly, I seem to have trouble with them)

This is a beauty. I love how you used some wider sashing to add more detail. Love it.
