Batik Beauty

Has anyone of the Board made the "Batik Beauty"? I would love to see your interpretation of this pattern. I want to do one for my DGD (pictured here in my avatar) in purple batiks. Thank you. Yolanda Wood River

Looked up the "Batik Beauty" pattern and it's very pretty. I think it would be just as stunning in purples.

None of the "Batik Beauty" quilts shown in my "Google" search are the pattern that I have. I will scan the photo and post it later. Y

I apologize. The book is called Batik Beauties by Laurie J. Shifrin. The quilt pattern is Mystique Beauty shown below.

I love the pattern. And yes it would be fab in purple. I am going to be a new auntie again and I am hoping my brothers baby is a girl and my sil will let me do the baby bedding in purple batiks but I doubt it. I will just have to make an extra baby quilt in purple batiks for the baby if it is a girl. (Oh how I want it to be. I have sooooo many ideas for the baby quilt. Think i will start in on it. ) my dd who is 4 1/2 is all about purples and I am making her a bed quilt in purple batiks. Purple batiks is our favorite color!!!!! Now to get back to sewing.
Is it a pieced border? It looks like thin piano keys.

littlebitoheaven 09-08-2012 04:37 PM

The pattern calls for a batik stripe fabric. But certainly a piano key border would work as well. Y

Quilt-T 09-08-2012 08:13 PM

It's beautiful! I wish I could find that book/pattern. I think it would look great in purples!!

QM 09-08-2012 08:37 PM

Yes, purples would be just fine for that pattern. Make sure you get enough tonal variation.

Jim's Gem 09-08-2012 09:14 PM

It would look fabulous in purple!!!

spokanequilter 09-08-2012 09:56 PM

Yes! Purple please.....(gorgeous pattern...)

I looked up Batik Beauty on Google, and found many patterns. Are you talking about a specific pattern?

faykilgore 09-09-2012 07:54 AM

It would be FABULOUS in purple, but I truely hate making flying geese.

hevemi 09-09-2012 09:42 PM

(Quilt-T) The closest free block I could think of is the Fox and Geese block. One would have to replace the corner HSTs with a square in a sq or 2 flying geese going to opposite directions. Just an idea to work with.

Oh, that is so pretty, and would look great in purples. For me, it has too many flying geese. I love the look, but not the doing. I can never get any 2 the same size no matter what way I make them.

Grammy! I'm sorry the book is "Batik Beauties". The pattern is Mystique of Bali. Yolanda

I have the book with the pattern. From the replies I have gotten, I am thinking this may be too difficult for me at this time. Thanks to everyone for your input. Yolanda

I use the squareinasquare system by Jodi Barrows. Perfect every time.

The author of Batik Beauties works at the quilt shop, "The Quilt Loft", in Ballard Washington. She's a very nice lady and may be able to help you. The book appears to be available on Amazon.

It would be beautiful in purples, pinks or any color or combination. Even scrappies would be beautiful too.

Aloha from Hawai`i!

The Quilt in a Day Flying Geese Rulers are super easy to use and, IMO, are the fastest & easiest way to turn out flying geese that are all perfect and match each other.
:)

There are several sizes of rulers (I have all of them) so be sure to check your pattern to make the size you need. Most of the packages have two rulers which make four sizes of geese.

BTW, the first video uses a method that wastes a lot of fabric and doesn't make "real" flying geese.

... just sayin' ...

Quilters Almanac - 2009 had pattern called Batik Beauty in their magazine. The pattern for that was called Dimes and Quarters. Don't know if it is the same but google Batiks in Teals and Oranges for QB post with picture. The gal was kind enough to furnish the pattern info today.
