Have stash of various Batiks and need suggestions for
block/patterns to use for lap size quilts. Can you help? |
I use the same patterns as for any fabric.. although I do think that some batiks make stunning stained glass window blocks :D:D:D
|
Because of the pattern and coloring of some batiks, they "show" better with larger pieces in the blocks but there is no reason you can't use them in any pattern.

go to google images and type in "batik quilts" or even "batik quilt patterns" and the eye candy is amazing!!!
I'm sure you will get some ideas. |
I am looking to find a scrappy one for batiks too!

I recently made the lap size batik quilt in my avatar. I think the large, two piece blocks really show off the beautiful batik fabric.

If your scraps are really small, use them for the corners of flying geese. Make the center triangle a solid neutral colour. It really shows off the batiks.
Then use a solid squares of the neutral with sashing of flying geese between them. The large neutral blocks can show off some fancy quilting and the flying geese show off their colour. |

Is the Disappearing Nine Patch too simple for your purpose? I quite like this method and am going to have some of the children, who sew with me, make this as a project. |

attached is a pic of a quilt I thought i saw in McCall's magazine. It stuck in my head for the longest time so I started making it only to find my 'recollection' was not the same as what was in the mag!
