Batik fabric

Just a quickie :) can batik fabrics go by any other name? trying to find any in the UK seems to drop my choices about 10 to 1 :(

I know that Hoffman batiks are called Bali. Otherwise most manufacturers here in the US called them batiks. When I am searching for a TT batiks, I search under the name Tonga for their batiks.

I would guess that batik fabrics make up less than 10% of the available quilting fabrics out there, so going from 10 to 1 might not be unreasonable. Batik is the process used to create the fabric, and is a Javanese word, so I don't know of another name. Companies give some of their specific batik lines a name, like Bali and Tonga, but if you do a search on just batik, they still come up. Hoffman has other lines of batiks in addition to Bali.

Maybe try hand dyed fabric?

I did a google search of "batik quilt fabric uk" and it has brought up lots of places that stock them, maybe just not your smaller shops. They are very common here in Australia.

Batik is a technique of dying the fabrics and I can't imagine them being called anything else.

The Cotton Patch in Birmingham have a very good range. You could also try Lady Sew and Sew, but as others have said here, Bali and Tonga searches should throw up some quilt shop options.
