I find it difficult to needle turn batik applique since the fabric is so stiff. Pressing the seam allowance under can also be difficult since it really needs lots of heat and steam to work, and it's hard to keep the fingers out of the way.

I have a couple of beautiful pieces of batik - so beautiful in fact that I keep taking them out and looking at them, smoothing them, drooling (not literally!) over them and then putting them away again - can't bear to take a cutter to them!

I love batiks. I collect and collect, then when it comes time to cut one I have to think about it for a long time before making a decision on whether I really want to cut or not. guess you know I do have a lot of them. that project will come along some day.LOL

Wow - that's a beautiful color. I think you'll be very happy with whatever you make with it.

hummmm think I have that batik :) I love them , nice to work with but a little hard to hand quilt, because of the close weave.

That would make one stunning quilt!

I wish I had money, because I would buy a panole with all the fairys in blocks. that is just beautiful. thank you for the site. God bless. Penny

Some quilters have noticed it's more difficult to hand quilt through batiks 'cause of their higher thread count. Me, I think they're so pretty it's worth the extra effort. Don't start over!!!

I have that fabric! Used it on one of those sweatshirt jackets, and now I'm using the leftovers for a "scrappy" batik quilt. It was so enjoyable to work with.

I LOVE batiks.

Can you tell me where the batik block exchange is - I've heard of it and would like to join also

Sure zactanis. Here's the link: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-41012-1.htm

I love batiks. The quilts that I keep for myself tend to be batiks :)
But beware, the colors can occasionally run when wet. I have a beautiful bag made from batiks and it got rained on and the colors ran a bit on the seams and strap. But my 2 lap quilts are fine, I guess since they have never been out in the weather lol.

I hand quilt too but don't have any trouble with batiks, even when using a batik also for the backing. Of course, after hand quilting a queen size quilt made of home decor fabric I guess batiks are no problem! Yep, a lady wanted a queen quilt & purchased 80% decor fabric fr it, now THAT was hard to hand quilt!!!

Make yourself a small project, wall hanging, tote bag or something...then you'll really be hooked! :)

I think batiks are just too gorgeous. I am doing one of McKenna Ryan's art quilts in batiks. She suggests machine quilting to hold all the fusible pieces on. The blocks I have made so far is stunning.

Oh, so do I! My friend is making a baby quilt out of batiks for her first expected grandbaby. As much as I love batiks, I do have to say I am quite disappointed at the look of this quilt. I think the colors & blocks weren't wisely choosen but that doesn't usually matter with batiks. Something about it just isn't right but I can't put my finger on it.
