I have only just started sewing with Batiks in the past few months! I used to avoid them because of the variations in the colors blew my mind! Now, I love them....for the very same reason!
I started a few months ago with the Batik wedding quilt for my son. Then, with a GC from DH I bought a pattern for a purse and a few yards of batik...then another purse pattern and more Batiks...I am loving it! And, I can have my purses the way I like them. I was wondering what pins do you use with Batiks? Any pins that I have bought so far seem far too big in diameter for the tight knit of Batiks. |
Hi... I love batiks too. First quilt I ever made was last year and it was a queen size for my granddaughter. Don't remember the name of the pattern, but it used the plastic templates with lots of curves... and 2 different sizes of templates. She loved it, fortunately!
Thought I'd never get it finished tho. Could you post some pics of the bags you make? I still have lots of fabric left over and would love to use them for something like that for gifts. |
When I use batiks I just use those yellow flowered headed pins, but that is only because that is all I have. I have never noticed it leaving any holes or anything in the batiks. But then again I can't see clear so I may just be not seeing them. ;)

I use the long flower head pins. I bought them to do a OBW, but found them great for batiks.

I use the long thin glass head pins, or long flower head pins whichever I grab first. Or I will use silk pins - depends on what I am piecing.

Batiks are my main fabric. I use Clover flower head pins.

Does it really make a difference what pins are used on Batiks, Fossil Ferns or Balis? I have never seen it mentioned anywhere else!

Thanks for all the answers! |
I love batiks too! I just use regular pins too, but they are harder to get in. Guess I need skinnier ones too.

I found a great pin. The clovers were too long and thick. The flower heads too long which allow more bend. They're called Dritz #16980 Extra Fine Glass Head .5mm shaft. A smidge thicker than the flower heads, but shorter and sturdier.
Left Dritz, center Clover Flower (.45mm), right Clover Glass Head. |
I use almost entirely batiks these days, but have always used Dritz extra fine glass head pins (from JoAnn's) for everything. I don't like flat head pins...too hard to pick up cuz they're, well, flat.
