Batik quilts - your opinion please
Planning a college graduation quilt for a dear young lady.
Which do you find more attractive: Batik quilts made with a color theme or grouping (for example: greens/blues/purples, pinks/reds/oranges) OR Any and all batik colors all mixed together? THX for your input! |
Since I knew my granddaughters favorite colors, I chose emerald greens and blues with small touches of orange.. Used the drunkard path pattern, but made it in circles and split circles.. She loved it... Good thing!! This was my very first queen size quilt and I learned a lot making it!
Good luck! and be sure to show it when you've finished! |
I have seen quilts in both combos that I have liked & some that I haven't.
I would ask the dear young lady for her preference! |
I'd like this to be a total surprise. All I know is that blue is her favorite color. ;-)

I love batiks all different will be great and all the same will be great. you can't go wrong. I will tell you one thing.. I made a denim rag quilt with batiks and those batiks really looked good with the denim jeans

I have made them both ways and think it really depends upon the pattern, and the look you want. I made a scrappy batik with all different colors and loved it. I have also made them monochromatic with only one color scheme and liked them too!
|
I think it depends upon how many batiks you have. I have a tendency to make quilt gifts in all colors with neutral batiks scrappy too. So it doesn't follow color choices of a certain time. If you don't have a collection of batiks, precuts are the way to go, variety without expense of collecting lots of colors.

I have gone both ways. The one with lots of browns I call "Candy Shoppe" and the other is Tropical Paradise with LOADS of color.
Big Oops.... the brown one is not batiks. Anne may be coming down with "oldtimers". |
Ask her mom what her favorite colors are.

I like them much better if they are in warm or cool color groups.
