Batting advice?

I am still a newb, and have only completed two quilts. I have a third top ready for quilting and have begun piecing a fourth.

I used Quilter's Dream on my first two, and they are both really thin. I would like my quilts to be thicker/warmer/heavier, but I don't know much about batting options.

I am wondering what to look for when I go shopping for my batting. Also, I have recently seen fusible batting and am wondering if that would make basting easier.

If you can swing the cost, wool is an excellent option; it's a little thicker, definitely warmer in winter, but not as heavy as cotton.

I am thinking I should look for "deluxe" or "supreme" lofts of Quilter's Dream? (Or similar with other brands)

Would wool batting be an issue for wool allergies even though it would be encased in cotton?

My favorite so far is Warm & Natural. The quilts are nicely flat and when washed they become soft and yet they are very warm. I have had mine on my bed for few months and washed three times and love how it looks and how warm it is.

You could double the batting or if it is for you put even more in or try polyester batting. I would make a bed runner and have a go at putting various batting in and see which you like best.

I used the Deluxe Quilters Dream, but have to say it's not my favorite...however, the "Select" is wonderful and oh so soft, with a really nice drape! The Deluxe tends to be too warm and heavy as well as being a little stiff, even without dense quilting.

I am becoming a fan of bamboo batting. It is thin but warm as heck and really soft to the touch. My biggest complaint with it is that it is extremely fuzzy while quilting.

i like both quilter's dream and warm brand battings.
i usually go for warm brand for machine quilting.
the lowest loft QD is perfect for hand quilting.

I've used fusible batting and do not like it. It is a real pain to press the layers together and is very stiff while trying to quilt in my DSM. I don't roll my quilts while quilting, but scrunch them instead. The sandwich is so stiff that scrunching is difficult.

When I was wondering what batting to use for a project, I emailed to The Batty Lady on the Internet. She sent me samples of several types, samples were large enough to make a little sandwich to try out. She has many different batts and I like ordering from her.
