batting affecting quilting

I have been have the best luck with my FMQ recently. I don't mean that its perfect, but it has been sooo much easier. No eyelashes and everything just does what its supposed to be doing

I realized that I have been using the same batting for the last several quilts. Do you guys think that batting can make quilting easier? I bought a roll of Hobbs 80/20 and things have really turned around.

Any thoughts

Yes! I love that batting for FMQ. It quilts like butter... The fabric of the top and backing never shift around on it, either. It's the best.

! Interesting! I have been working on a quilt using a polyester batting doing my free motion on my tiara and have not been really satisfied. Before that I always used Hobbs 80/20. Think I'll go back to that.

I've used Hobbs in the past but now use Pellons 80/20 batting and have always been happy with it.

I like Hobbs 80/20 for FMQ also.

oh, YES! I believe bat makes a huge difference. I use Hobbs 80/20 or their wool usually. I like that neither are very linty and have found that poly bats, especially if they are lofty or don't have any density to them, tend to pucker more. I am using a double bat of Hobbs 80/20 and Quilters Dream poly (could not find black wool anywhere) and like the Quilters Dream poly cause it is stable.

Mostly all I ever use is high loft poly batting. Much thicker and turns out much better than the other types. I quilt on either of two 9" throat machines.

I use that same bat...Hobbs 80/20..and it quilts nicely for FMQ.
I think it makes a big difference.

My favorite batting is Quilters Dream Select cotton for its "hand" and nice response to FMQ.
