I am making my first quilt and want to finish it off without a binding. I am having a hard time figuring it out. I am ready now for the batting and backing and am stumped. Can any of you please help me?.

Thanks,
Marcia

You could do it the way my guild makes quilts for charity.
First lay the batting down, then the backing right side up anf then the top right side down.Stitch all arounf the edges, but you need to leave a gap of at least 6 inches or more. Then when you're done with the stitching turn the quilt inside out and finish closing the gap.You can sew along the edge once it is turned out to make it look like it has a binding if you choose to.We hand tie all the quilts. We have a Quilt-a-thon every year usually in August where thats what we do for the entire day, makes quilts for charity.
there are people who cut, some who sew, others put the "sandwich" together and another group who does the hand ties.

You speak of the Quiltathon in August, is that the Tucson Quilter Quild? If that is the one you are speaking of you have got to know me. I have a very responsible position in the Quild, I am the Parking Lot Monitor LOL
