batting for doll quilt

I want to make a quilt for an 18 inch doll. What kind of batting should I use and where do I get it? I don't have a fabric store near me, only Walmart. I made one last year but it was too stiff after I quilted it. Thanks.

I would just use flannel if it is a doll quilt

I have seen some posts when flannel was used instead of batting. The doll is not going to get cold at night??? :)

Do you have a nice piece of fleece that could go on the back? You could use it without any batt and quilt it.

I agree with the flannel suggestion. Surely you have some ugly left-over flannel in your stash, and this would be a great way to use some of it!!! ;o)

I agree with using flannel.

I just finished making a quilt for my GD and her American Girl doll for Valentine's Day. Used a leftover piece of poly batting; not sure of the loft, but it was in the medium range. I wanted the appliqued hearts to stand out when I quilted around them. And I like the feel of a quilt this size with poly batting rather than the thinner stuff like W&N or flannel.

I think WM poly batting would be fine for this purpose. Good luck!

I agree a piece of flannel could be used. Just be sure it has been pre-washed, wouldn't want it to shrink after-the-fact and make a mess of a nice doll quilt!
