batting for microwave bowl holders

I want to make these bowl holders for gifts but want to minimize risk of fire in the microwave. I have been told by customer service at the Warm Company that "warm tater" has been discontinued and replaced by new and improved "warm plush". I cannot find it anywhere either in stores or on the internet. None of the stores mentioned on the Warm site have it. Have any of you seen or purchased it? Failing that I do have some Fairfield soft touch cotton batting but that seems quite thin.

i was looking for it also... seems it's not readily available yet. :(

My friend made me one and I think she put in two layers of W&N. I don't think that Ultrabrite would work would it??

I had not heard that they are making a new product, thank you for the info.

I purchased some batting at Joann's that was supposed to be microwave safe 100% cotton. I'm not sure if this is it, but the description sounds similar. I really like the feel of the batting I bought. It's in the prepackaged batting area. It was $7.99 a package, but I bought it on sale for $3.99. I will look at the package tonight and post again tomorrow.

I just bought a package of Pellon Wrap 'n Zap on sale @ Joann's and hope to give it a try this weekend. The package features potato bags on it, so am hoping it will work for the bowls, too. http://www.pellonprojects.com/products/wrap-n-zap/

I cut some 4 inch squares of different battings and tested them in the microwave. One was 100% cotton and it burned and stunk horribly. The wool didn't even get hot but it was too fluffy for the bowls. I used warm and natural. Try a test on the batting before using. I heated the batting for 4 min. That is time enough to heat a bowl of food. If you plan on using the batting for cooking like in potato bags be sure and test heat it the same amount of time it will be used for.

I just found it on Fabrics.com. They only have it in queen size for $29.99. One could make a boatload of microwave bowl holders with that amount!
