batting for placaemats??
 

When making placemats what do you use for batting??

I always like to use flannel as it makes the placemat sit flat- no lumps or bumps for drinks etc to tip - and they also dry quickly when washed rather than using a much thicker wadding.

I use thermolan(sp).. It is very thin and flexible..a batting used in clothing.....

I use fusible fleece.

Before I found Bosal or Craf-Tex forms, I used flannel. The forms are double sided fusible and give the mats a consistent shape and size. They seem expensive, but to me, they're worth it. My work looks much more professional with them.

Thermolam or that heat resistant stuff that has the shiny foil look to one side. Sorry, but the name escapes me at the moment!

The first placemats I made I used warm & natural cotton batting but prewashed it first; they did OK, still crinkled a little after washing finished mats. The next ones I made I tried a low lift Mountain Mist poly batting and they did fine with little crinkling. Then I used a layer of prewashed flannel and think I like them best as they are the thinnest and stay the flattest.

I used my scraps of Hobbs 80/20 batting.

I use poly felt. It doesn't shrink, is completely washable, lies flat, is relatively inexpensive.
