Hi, I'm new to this forum and have been reading some of your great advice for quilting. At a recent craft show I came across placemats and interested me in making them but I forgot what they said they used as batting. The placemat was very thin but durable and they had one that was washed and it still was very firm. Anyone know what type of batting that is? Thanks.

I like to use warm and natural 100% cotton. It is thin and washes well :D:D:D

Or, I found some really great stuff at Joanne's. It's real thin, and has fusible webbing on one side. They sell it by the yard. They store it will all of their other interfacing. Works great for place mats!

Sometimes I use warm and natural, but I prefer a thin Needlepunch as it is denser & you don't get as much shrinkage = old fashioned scrunchy look once they're washed.

I use Soft & Bright made by Warm & Natural but it has some poyester in it. There is no shrinking or puckering which I hate on tablerunners. It lays flat and is a very even thickness overall. No resins or glues but is needlepunched. Very strong-gives a nice flat even finish to table runners, toppers, quilts, etc.

i have used old towels the good parts also flannel that has been washed in other words i have used a lot of odds and ends
