First of all - wow, what amazing work you're all doing!!! I'm enjoying looking at all pictures and reading about fabric and pattern choices, the thought process on what the quilting should look like to enhance the piecing and learning about what seems to be some amazing connections made here on the Quilting Board. It is all so inspiring!
I have noticed that Bond's poly/down seems to be used quite frequently and since I have not yet used this batting myself I am curious to hear the Board members preferences on quilt batting. I have used warm & natural in my quilts so far but am always looking to learn and develop so am more than happy to try something new. What are your thoughts on batting? |
If top or backing are not white/light colored, I like Dream Green. It's soft, drapes well, is made of recycled pop bottles & can be quilted 10-12" apart. I'm not crazy about quilting, do not FMG so 10-12" apart is good for me. I make a lot of quilts for donation to kids & generally make large blocks. This makes it quick & easy for me to quilt.

Here's a link to a search on this topic. Lots of opinions!
http://www.quiltingboard.com/search....u=&sr=true&s=0 btw, do you mean Hobbs poly down? |
my favorite batting is dream wool
next would be hobbs heirloom 80/20 then dream poly, dream bamboo, dream orient, dream green can you tell i love batts from the Dream company? i use warm & natural (usually when a customer brings them with their quilt) they are ok there are so many to choose from and try out- i try new ones when i come across them- and keep a (batting journal) so i can write down where it came from, how much it cost, the fiber content, the stitching recommendations, care instructions- then what i thought about it when i used it. i also add a 6" swatch of the batting so i can feel it- look at it- every quilt is different and when it's time to quilt i can grab my journal and (browse) battings to find the perfect one for that quilt- and if i use one i HATE- which has happened a few times- i can look and see that- so i don't (fall for a sale) and get something i do not like- |
I'm a warm and natural (or warm and white) girl but I am trying to make friends with the Hobbs 80/20
|
I'm a Warm N Natural girl usually too, but I will usually use anything I've got a coupon for, or I can get on sale
|
I love the warm and natural. I have used poly at times too but like the warm and natural best.
|
I've used an 80/20 batting, but it is too flat and stiff for me. I usually use poly. I am a hand quilter and it is the easiest to hand quilt I've found. And I like the loft of a poly batting.

I had been using the batting from walmart, but it seems too thin, to me. I have a couple bags left to use. When those are gone, I well be using warm and natural from then on. I like the feel of it.
