In my area, someone on Craigslist has an ad for 15 yards of 1" thick polyester batting, 60 inches wide, at $6 per yard.

Do you think this is a good deal?

I know I bought some thick polyester batting at Joann's and didn't pay anywhere near $6, and it was so stiff the blankets were almost like boards, lol. But maybe that was just the kind I bought. Still, 1" thick seems like very high loft. I do like the 60 inch width, though.

Your thoughts are appreciated!

I just am wondering what you would use 1" think batting on as it seems pretty thick for a quilt. Would it not be more of an upholstery item? I had a comforter custom made & either I picked the wrong batting or they did not use what I picked as the comforter is humongous & way too stiff. It took a long time for it to even drape down at the corners.

that sounds like padding, like for bumper pads and stuff

Unless you're tying the quilt and want it to look like marshmallows, I wouldn't go near 1" loft. It may not be intended for quilts. I use something similar-sounding that we call dacron in our upholstery shop to wrap cushions to make them look puffy and full.

Yes, I agree. Not for quilting.

Thanks, all. The ad said quilt batting, but I just couldn't imagine it working. You've confirmed my suspicions!

My immediate reaction to your post title was MLB baseball and batting in the game - can you tell I'm impatiently waiting for opening day!?!?!?!

Go SOX!!

I don't like the thick batting, you can divide it in half, so you get twice as much.
It is to stiff feeling for me.
And it seems much to much money.

I don't think I could get that 1 inch thick under my presser foot. Not without really compressing it and then it would be difficult to quilt. A walking foot might even have trouble.
Not that great a price !
