Batting question

I'm just finishing a charity quilt and I need to wash it as I have cats, so everything has cat hair:). I don't know what kind of batting is in the quilt because it was donated from my guild. I did try ironing a sample and it melted flat as a pancake :D, so I'm guessing it's polyester. Can I just wash and dry as normal in my machines or will the heat from the dryer melt the batting? I think from what I've read here that it is OK to dry in the dryer, just don't iron it. Since I don't know anything about the batting, does anyone know of a batting that absolutely cannot go in the dryer???

It's most likely polyester batting. You can wash it with no problem. I wouldn't dry it in laundromat dryers that are really hot, but it will be fine in all other dryers.

If you're worried, try 'almost' drying it in your home dryer, then draping it over something to finish.
Or dry it on the "polyester' setting.

If it's to be a charity quilt, it'd better be able to withstand 'normal' washing and drying.
