It figures . I had to buy a new battery for the car this month. When did they get so expensive? lol I haven't had to buy one for 10 years.

QuiltnLady1 06-09-2011 01:22 PM

Thanks for the heads up. I bought 10yds with a 50% off coupon so I don't have storage space for more (sigh).

Thank you for letting us know :D:D:D

Raggiemom 06-09-2011 02:05 PM

Thanks!

Is this one of the battings that most of you like? I know that I have seen posts about some from Joann that people don't like. I have only bought Quilter's Dream so buying by the yard is new to me.

I use it, W&N, for wall hangings because it is a little stiffer than others. Last week I had a 50% off coupon for Joanns and I bought Hobbs 80/20 off the bolt. I don't know if all Joanns carry it though, this local Joanns also carries Mountain Mist Cream Rose batting which is a nice cotton batting similar to QD, but I haven't been able to find it at other Joann stores.

Does the Hobbs 80/20 make a fluffier quilt? I have a 50% off coupon now and need to find a batting that is a little puffier/fluffier than QD Select or Request. Or if you have another suggestion for batting.....Thanks.

sueisallaboutquilts 06-09-2011 03:40 PM

Thank you!

tcnmom 06-09-2011 04:02 PM

I bought Hobbs 80/20 last week with a 50% off. I like Hobbs better than W & N. Hobbs is only $7.99 at regular price and W & N is $6.99 at 50% off. Hobbs is not as heavy as W & N and that's what I like. I think the warmth is the same. Harriet Hargrave uses Hobbs.

I think it is very slightly fluffier than QD, not like a 100%poly or wool though.

My battery went out last Friday. When I bought it 4 years ago, it was $44, the one I bought last Friday was $91.88, there must be gold somewhere. Feel your pain.

I don't want to pop any bubbles-----

However the sale doesn't start this Saturday, June 11th.

The sale runs from Sunday, June 12 thru Saturday, June 18.

Yes, those are my boys. Riley is on the right in the pic and Walker is on the left. They are going to be 4 yrs old in Oct and Nov and have been raised together since birth. We got them at age 1. They are the sweetest pets and I love them dearly. They get along wonderfully with our dogs. You can probably tell in the pic that they are minis.

Thanks all who answered my questions about batting. Been looking through my ads and online and apparently our Joanns doesn't sell Hobbs. I will try other online sources. I have noticed the Charismah uses Hobbs Poly/down on her LA a lot. Has anyone tried sewing with that on domestic machines (FM)? I love how it looks in her quilts.

They may have it in your local store. Our store has a few battings that are not on-line.

LindaJ 06-10-2011 04:23 AM

Isn't that something you are the 4th person including myself that had to get a battery this year! That is too strange.

Jennifer22206 06-10-2011 04:26 AM

make it the 5th person who had to get a battery. :) We did too.

And thanks for the heads up on the sale. I already have a bolt of W&N but can always use more! :)

stitchengramie 06-10-2011 04:46 AM

I do not know about the JoAnn's Fabric in your town, but here in Michigan they are have a sale on most items at 50% off starting next week.

LindaJ 06-10-2011 05:15 AM

Cool!

mimee4 06-10-2011 05:55 AM

Thanks for this thread. I usually buy W&N by the bolt. At 50% off it is cheaper but now I'd like to try Hobbs, too. Good prices!!!

cherrio 06-10-2011 06:59 AM

I think joanns has fq's for .99 at the same sale as the 6/12thru 6/18. and I bought a battery 2 months ago for $110.00 must be regional pricing. go figure.

That's funny because I had to get a new one this month too. $101.00 for the cheapest battery. UGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH

IdahoSandy 06-10-2011 07:27 AM

Don't forget fat quarters starting June 12th are 99 cents at least here in Idaho

On average, how many yards would be in a batt of Warm and Natural. I'm thinking this would be a better way to buy it, especially at $6.99 per yard.

liese 06-10-2011 02:59 PM

Funny though -- online through Joann's the large bolt of 40 yards is 1/2 off of $430 = $215. In the store the large bolt is $6.99 x 40 yards which is almost $280 plus tax. I know there is some shipping (around $15) when you order online but a $65 difference is a lot!

suzanprincess 06-10-2011 03:09 PM

I scored a great deal on W&N at JoAnn's a couple of months ago--queen size was 60% off, and I got a 20% off everything coupon in the mail the day before I planned to head to the sale! Had to do a special order because they were out of stock, but it was easy to do and order came in the next week. Was thinking to buy 3 when I got to the store, but increased to 5 by the time I ordered...it was only $8 a pkg. I figured I could cut down or piece as needed for other sizes.

Barbshobbies 06-10-2011 03:50 PM

I have my Jo-Ann`s add in front of me, I live in Wisconsin, and there is no batting in my add! Too bad, we had 3 days of 90 degrees and to-day a high of 55. Sure could use warm batting. HA

chris_quilts 06-10-2011 05:31 PM

Batteries are expensive but try new tires. Just for a carryout, the chepaest price was still $75 per tire and there weren't any available at the 2 salvage yards where we usually buy them. This is our year for expensive and many car repairs.
