This is what I do with batting and material scraps that are too small to really use, I have my two grandchildren, ages 7 and 4, help out the birds by placing these little pieces in bushes and trees they can reach. It gives them a first-hand lesson about life and helping out other creatures. They fed the birds at home, but now they help the birds build their nests, too. They love it!

I keep the batting, zigzag together the bigger pieces to make a big piece and I also save scrap string fabric for the birds... its really neat to walk thru the property and see their colorful nests..

I keep them.
I make smaller projects or pot holders for gifts!

Someone said they use them on their Swiffer. Just a thought if you don't think you'll use them any other way.

The batting left over from my quilts I cut two and a half inch strips and pad coathangers before I attach the cover I have knitted....

I make doll quilts but do not put batting in them - they would be too stiff. I try to use up my scraps, but always seem to have a bunch of them.

I had a rather large piece set aside to use for a tablerunner. It was folded and over to the side of my machine on a tote of fabric. One day the cat(the spoiled black one in my avatar) wandered in and decided it looked like a great bed. He has moved on to sleeping elsewhere but the batting is a goner!

I zig zag my scraps together and use in dog/cat scrap quilts for a shelter. None of the animals have complained yet.

I sometimes will use when making a patchwork jean pillow. I stitch the jeans right to the batting.

Several qult guild friends save their scraps to use for coasters, hot drink wraps (for tall cups, like the cardboard wraps on the Starbucks cups).

I have another friend who cuts her scraps into 3 1/2" squares for glue-sticking onto precut 3 1/2" squares ... which she turns into completed fabric-batting-fabric units (just like a coaster) which she then hand-sews together to create reversible quilts, wall hangings, runners, etc. One of her most attractive projects is doing this with half-square triangles using one of many layouts to create a large long rectangle, which she then uses to create a purse or tote.

Another guild friend saves her batting scraps according to weight and fiber content, and then puts these gallon ziplock bags on our Freebies table at our monthly guild meeting. Someone always takes the bags and makes some use of the scraps - ornaments, keychain fobs, you name it.

I use them for potholders, to dust my machines, zig zag together for samll projects. Make pillows for the dogs, I just keep them and use them for whatever turns up....
