Batting sides~front vs back

Is there a right and wrong side to batting and if so how can one tell which is the right side from wrong side.

Warm & Natural and Warm & White have a right and wrong side

I believe the only type of batting that has a right and wrong side is batting that is needlepunched through scrim. Warm and Natural cotton is needlepunched through scrim. Quilter's Dream cotton is needlepunched, but not through scrim, and I *think* this means it does not have a right and wrong side. Other battings may not be needlepunched, but may be treated with glazing, and these also would not have a right and wrong side (these would be polyester battings, I think).

Which batting type and brand are you using? That would tell us whether your batting has a right and wrong side.

I mostly use the Quilter's Dream cotton and have not ever worried about a right or wrong side. Seeing the pictures of the Warm and Natural makes me see that there is a difference, but that is a batting that I rarely use-it seems too stiff to me. I also use Hobb's batting, and again, do not see a difference on either side.

Thanks Prism for the information on the batting, I normally use QUilter's Dream cotton batting.

Is there something official that says that's the way warm & natural is supposed to be in a quilt? I know the sides are different but the packages I've seen don't say this side or that side toward the top.

It really should be on the package, in my opinion. I don't know why they fail to include that information on the packaging.

That's why I have a picture tacked up in my sewing room of the difference:)

How about this. Has anyone put it on backwards and noticed a problem? I've never even paid attention to how I put it on and I'm sure I've done it both ways. Most of my finishes so far are lap quilts we've kept and use and I don't notice anything wrong with them. No differences during quilting either.

I agree. I use it all the time and frankly, have never paid attention. That said, I also only hand quilt so don't know if that is a factor or not. But, should definitely be on the package/label. Will have to look next time I'm unrolling some just for kicks.
