I love Quilters Dream Blend (70/30). It works beautifully when I am machine quilting.

I can't have a quilt leave the studio if people won't be happy, and I don't think they'll be happy with lots of thread pokies!!

I've also had some issues with W&W and W&N when using dark backs. Sometimes the batting pokes through with the needle. While they will eventually sluff off, it looks horrible when returning to the customer. As I understand it, this is not unusual with those products. I have never had that problem with Quilter's Dream.

I have to agree. Quilters Dream is a great product. I have used it when shipping wasn't so high.

Have you tried using Black batting... I use that for my dark backings.

There appears to be an up and a down on batting. The outside of the folded batting should be down against the backing. This helps with the pokies.

I just tried some 80/20 on the quilt that I am machine quilting now...its been pretty nice. The 100% cotton and bamboo/cotton blends are PRICEY!

It really depends on your end purpose and personal likes for batting choices. I really like Hobbs Polydown batting for a quilt that will see a lot of wear and washings because it really stands up well and doesn't seem to shrink, beard or bunch up. However, this is not the batting that I would use for my daughter's wedding quilt. I try really hard to match the batting to the quilt. Battings are certainly not all equal and your method of quilting must also be considered. No quilter wants to try handquilting a thick Poly batt.

I have a batting room.

Right now, I really like the Legacy by Pellon, 80/20

Oh, Sue, the perfect person to ask! I'm hand quilting one with Legacy 80/20 right now. It's bearding really bad through the light colors and the narrow black sashing. On the black border, I had to insert a thin white cotton trying to block the fibers coming through to the black. My LQS said they had never noticed the problem before. What am I doing wrong? How can I stop it? Didn't notice it until I got about 75% done quilting. Of course, I will wash it when I finish. It would freak out my MIL to see it the way it is! Thank you for any suggestions or solutions!

I also like to use the Hobbs 80/20, Tuscany and Legacy 100% cotton and the Legacy 80/20. Never had any problems at all with bearding on one of that brands! But maybe that can be a problem of the fabric. Some fabrics seem to be a tiny little bit too coarse and the fibres start coming through it. I always try to find fabrics with a high thread count like 75 per inch/direction. Unfortunately I don't have an idea what you can do now, Texasjunebug....
