Connecting threads is having a batting sale, has anyone looked at it? Are theses good prices and what batting do you recommend. I've used a lot of June Tailors batting that is iron on and some higher loft polyester, but have wondered about the benefits of using cotton. The last bag I bought was 80 cotton 20 polyester and it has a very low loft, is that typical of cotton battings? Which do you prefer?

Cotton batting is typically lower loft. I *love* cotton batting because it gets softer with every washing. My favorite battings are Mountain Mist Blue Ribbon 100% cotton (very traditional flat batting that "crinkles" when you wash it -- this type is what antique quilts were made with) and Hobbs 80/20.

From what I have seen, Hobbs is a better brand of 80/20 than others. It has a little more loft than the Mountain Mist, and is good for both machine and hand quilting.

I use Hobbs 80/20 and really like it-not puffy like poly but leaves a good definition of quilting.

I use warm and natural and you can quilt it up to 10" apart if you wish. Drapes well and holds up very well. I pre wash fabric but do not pre wash the batting so will have a little "crinkling". It handles like a sheet blanket.

I like the Hobbs 80/20 a lot because it is easy to hand quilt and it drapes wonderfully. The 80/20 of Legacy is also great.
From time to time I use a 100% cotton, Quilter's Dream, Tuscany or Legacy. They all don't have a scrim so it is easy to hand quilt. You have to quilt them 3 -4 inches apart.

I use warm and natural almost exclusively. Even though the directions say it can be quilted up to 10" apart I usually do closer than that.
