Which batting is the thickest? Am looking for a roll, not packages.
 

I have a project where I would use the very thickest batting available. I have been looking around and have seen up to 1" I believe. Are there any poly battings thicker? Thanks for your input, appreciate it.

There used to be an 8oz poly available, but I haven't seen it in the stores lately. I think it was about 1" or a little fatter. I do still see 5oz poly around and I use that when I'm making a tied quilt. The poly bat does come in thicker sizes than the cotton variety.

I guess you need super high loft. The highest I've seen is high loft.

You can put two or three batting together.

Batt Mart claims to have a 20oz poly that is 1.25" in loft

Thanks all. This is real interesting comparing the weights, the loft, the width, the fiber content, the price, the shipping. There just may be a formula in there somewhere.....

Which hints to me, that this may not be for a quilt!
If so, you might want to take a look at upholstery products that could be considerably thicker than traditional quilt battings.

Some other considerations, regardless of what product you choose ....
How will that thickness change once it is quilted?
What is the minimum distance for quilting? .... again an upholstery product could give a broader allowance, though, you may not have a cuddly quilt in the end, if that is what you are wanting.

I find Quilter's Dream Batting to be the best. Do you want it really puffy or a heavier cotton batting. Please give a little more information on the way you would like your quilt to look when finished. Will it be tied, quilted by a long arm quilter or on your domestic machine?

When you look at polyester batting weights, the way it works is that if you were to cut off a yard and weigh it, that would be it's weight.

So if I have a 96" wide poly that's 18 oz. And I have a 48" wide poly that's 9 oz. They are the same thickness because one is half the width of the other.

Here's another example: 96" wide that's 12 oz. is the same thickness as a 120" wide 15 oz. And the 48" wide 6 oz is the same thickness, too.

And... 96" wide 8 oz is the same thickness as 48" wide 4 oz.

18 oz is the thickest poly batting we carry at the store. It comes from Winline.
