Beginning Trapunto
 

I've decided I'd like to try my hand at Trapunto. Have been watching all the tutorials on line. Does anyone have any advice or tips? I've been trying to find some patterns but haven't found anything on line. From what I can see, any motif can be used as a pattern. Is this right? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Have you checked the blog my Tim Lattimer? He a big hand quilter and does beautiful trapunto. It's on my project list. I even have a preprinted whold cloth crib quilt to start out with.

Yup! That's what I did. You only need water soluble in the top or bobbin, not both (use whichever your machine likes better). Once you wet the side with water soluble thread, the other thread just comes right out.

Sharon's video is what inspired me to try this. However, the only place I can find water soluable thread is Superior and I can't find the solution she washed the piece in to get rid of the blue print. What else can I use?

I took a miniclass years ago. We used the washaway thread, like DogHouseMom stated. We copied the design we wanted on the top piece of fabric with one of those blue washaway pens. After we were totally done we just used regular hand washing soap and cold water and the blue came out.

Am I looking on the wrong site for Sharon Schamber tutorials? All I can find are her DVD's for sale. I'd really like to see some of the work she does.
