I bought a treadle machine a few months ago - cleaned her up and now I want to put the belt on. A few belts came with the machine - they are longer than necessary and have a metal hook on one end.
I need advice on how to do this properly. I don't want to cut the belt too short and is there a specific direction the hook is suppose to travel after I squeeze it closed? Thanks so much! |
I'd ask Billy51, he's the expert on this!!

This may help you.
My husband who put mine on used an awl tool to make the hole http://sewingmachine221sale.bizland....placement.html |
OK --- I DID IT!!

Thanks AbbyQuilts - I looked the site you suggested after I put the belt on.... and I put my belt on in front of the bobbin winder instead of behind it. The instructions I found didn't say exactly...so I guessed. Oh well, I'll try it out and can adjust it if needed, cuz now I know how to do it!
My tools included a pencil, a steak knife -to cut that tough leather belt - a teeny tiny screwdriver (for eyeglasses) to poke the hole - a ball ping hammer to (gently) pound on the teeny tiny screwdriver - pliers and a flashlight! |
I can freely move my belt form in front of the bobbin winder to the back.
I would think that you would need to be able to move it back and forth because at least with my machine I need to have it in the front to wind the bobbin. Glad you were able to get the belt on :) |

I have a model 27 and would dearly love to use it but alas, I'm too stupid to figure it out    |
Winding and threading a shuttle or bullet shaped bobin is easy. This should get you started: http://www.treadleon.net/sewingmachi...vsshuttle.html
