hey i was just wondering what a good price is for a slightly used 820 bernena i was kinda thinking about getting a new sewing machine with some of my taxes and found one at a reputable dealer they say it only has 13 hours of
on time and 1 1/2 hours of sewing time and they want 4995 for it is that a good price i wasnt planning on spending that much but was wanting to learn to fmq.

I saw one on sale for a little over $7000 last summer so you are saving $2000. I think you are getting a great machine!

As long as the dealer is throwing in some sort of shop warranty for a certain period, that's a decent price. However, I'd be very careful about the warranty...manufacturer warranty from Bernina won't transfer to you so you really need to get something in writing about at least a 2-3 year store warranty covering repairs. I love my 830, but it was in the shop getting repaired 4 times and it would have cost a fortune if not covered by warranty.

Four guild members have the 830 and two have the 820. The 830 owners have had nothing but trouble with the embroidery on the 830 and other issues. One said her machine vibrates like a freight train and it's in the Bernina cabinet that came with purchase. The 820 seems to be problem free and their owners rave about them.

My problems have not been embroidery related at all. And the sensor problems occur on both the 830 and 820. Personally, I wouldn't even consider one of these machines unless some kind of warranty was provided.

I was at our Bernina dealer today and looked at an 820. It was $6400.00 new. Don't know anything about it though.

if you are looking at the Bernina because of the additional space under the arm, then there are other brands that have 11"
I agree with the above about the warranty. Also, it would be good to know why the person is selling at such a bargain price. That raises a red flag to me.

Yes the warranty is very important. I think the new Berninas are so advanced that glitches are bound to occur.
