Bernette 35 lost a screw from bobbin area
I opened the door to change my bobbin in my mechanical sewing machine, Bernette 35, and a screw fell out onto my table. I have looked carefully and can't see where the screw came from inside the bobbin area. The machine still operates as normal, but I don't want to use it and cause any damage. Any suggestions or similar experience? Thanks!

That's my favorite Bernette. Can you post a picture of the screw? I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks, Annette. I appreciate any suggestions you might have!
Here is the screw. The "washer" shaped part and screw are all one piece. https://www.quiltingboard.com/member...617-624680.jpg https://www.quiltingboard.com/member...617-624679.jpg |
Sara at Heirloom Creations has a video titled The Mysterious Bernina Screw. She starts out with an ode to the mysterious screw but then goes on to tell where it comes from and how to prevent it happening again.
She explains that many Bernina feet are capable of holding the seam guide. Each of these Bernina feet has its own screw at the top of the seam guide hole. Perhaps one of your feet is missing its screw. |
I'm sorry, Hellen. But I don't recognize the screw. I could stop at the store tomorrow and see if I can figure it out.
Bernettes aren't Berninas. They have different presser feet, so it won't be the presser foot screw. |

I found it! The picture is blurry, but it looks like the screw that is circled in green.

Hi Annette, it looks exactly the same but unfortunately (or fortunately!) that screw is still in place... the mystery continues!
Thanks! |
This may or may not make you feel better, but the first vintage machine I rehabbed, a Kenmore from the 1960s, I ended up with a screw at the end and no idea where it came from, and I never figured out where it went, but it didn’t seem to matter. It worked fine, at least while I had it. Here’s hoping that if you can’t figure out this mystery your machine will be equally as functional without it.

Could it have come from the machine cover?
